A brilliant venue with the rolling landscape of the park seeming to almost overlook Sheffield city centre lent a dramatic air to the Event Plan presentation held at Norfolk Park. And what a stupendous show this was  were the public were treated to a fascinating cross section of arms and armour through the ages reaching back to the mists of antiquity n the form of Greek Hoplites, and reaching forward through the Roman, Dark Age, Viking, Medieval (early and late), English Civil War, Lace Wars, Napoleonic, American Civil War, on into the 20th century.  The latter was very well represented by soldiers of the Great War, Spanish Civil War, Second World War and so on.

Music was presented by Hautbois which contrasted nicely with some of the sounds emanating from the fun fair just over the hill, and a display of falconry was also on the cards although the last time I saw them they were in search of a missing bird.  Sounds like the story of my life. Highlights of the day were the Lancaster over flight on the Saturday and of course the surgeon whose skills certainly could make a stomach turn not to forget the amazing American Civil War battle with its genuine fog of war.

So much to see and as always so little time.....same held true for the beer tent in the evening although stumbling around in the dark in quest of a toilet was far less hazardous for the chaps...for obvious reasons...but this only lent an air of anticipation to the whole experience and it was wonderful to meet so many dedicated and enthusiastic participants.

The following groups and individuals participated in this outstanding event thus there was the  Hoplite Association, The Vicus, Dark Age Theatre, Savile Household, Neville Household, Knights Hospiters, Hautbois, Days Gone By,  English Civil War Society, American Civil War Society, Blues & Greys, Arizona Rangers, Boers, 1879 Group, La Columna, Lace Wars, Manchester Regiment, 1914-21Society, Croix de Lorraine, Moonlight Serenaders, 8. Kompanie Grenadier Regiment Gross Deutschland, Timbertops Equestrian Centre, Society for the Study of Swordsmanship, Jono & Heather, Sue Jones, and Mac amongst many others....

Anyway a great time was to be had by all an experience made the more enjoyable by the professional organisation of Event Plan courtesy of Howard Giles and Event Plan as well as the re-enactors to whom appreciation must be expressed. Highly recommended event and if you get the chance next year check it out.
